Re: St. John's, Newfoundland

Well St. John's was just awesome. Such a fun town w/ lots of bars & nightlife and incredible cliff & ocean views (and whales!) that are all "right there". Everyone was friendly and wanted to know who we were and what we were up to in town. Lots of bartenders shared locals recommend...

Re: St. John's, Newfoundland

Landwash is the original Folly Brewery owners/brewers. Yup, thanks. I had pieced that together as I was reading about the beer scene. I remember they had moved out there but couldn't remember the name or where they were. Looks like a short cab ride from downtown so it's definitely on the list. Chri...

Re: Molson Coors bringing its ‘craft’ beer Blue Moon to Canada

That always struck me as such a botched opportunity though. This hyper local, community focused market partners with an international conglomerate instead of one of our many local breweries. No argument there, totally agree. It could have been a really cool local thing but instead its something tha...

Re: Molson Coors bringing its ‘craft’ beer Blue Moon to Canada

Seems like there was never a thread about the Blue Moon location at the Stackt Market in Toronto. I've been a few times, mostly for events, and it's been fine.

Anyway, looks like they renewed the lease for another 10 years so the market is there to stay for the foreseeable future.

Re: St. John's, Newfoundland

Sent you an email with notes from my 2019 trip. Let me know if you didn't get it. Landwash was great. We drank a decent amount of Quidi Vidi Day Boil while we were in Newfoundland. Craft beer prices at the liquor store in NFLD (and the maritimes in general) skewed higher in my experience. Decent se...

St. John's, Newfoundland

I tried to do a search and came across random ancient threads, so I thought I'd make an executive decision to create a new one :) I'm heading to St. John's NFLD for the first time in my life this weekend with a bunch of guys who were/are participants or lurkers on the forum. Any particularly notewor...

Anchor was bought by the owner of Chobani yogurt. It looks like it was for all assets including IP and facilities.

Re: Is lining up for beer releases a thing of the past?

Almost everywhere has online sales, Hill included, so with huge exceptions the lineups to buy bottles are a thing of the past. Looks like even in the online world Hill still has their mojo. Not being able to "just buy it" when I want would aggravate me to no end and I would go elsewhere. ...

Re: Turncoat

That is a strange way to find out a brewery for sure. Never heard of them either. It's a bit weird though, it says on their site that they have a physical location, but there are no hours posted nor are there any pictures of their space on their Instagram. Going back they said a year ago that they w...

Shake Shack Toronto

I know this is a stretch for the "Good Pubs & Beer Bars" category, but Shake Shack announced that the new Toronto location will have a "ShackMeister Ale" by Bellwoods. If anyone has been to the Shake Shacks in the U.S. they are generally licensed. I've seen Brooklyn Brewery b...

Or even just Brewer's Backyard. Those are the events I miss the most. February 2018 Brewer's Backyard at Brickworks was the first official date with the better half. We also did the 2019 one too as a first anniversary. Then the world stopped for a while. Anyways, we're getting married in a couple o...

Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early

Seems this will likely only benefit consumers in terms of convenience. Not in terms of price or variety. At least initially. It's interesting about variety. It's been what, 8-9 years since beer has come to grocery - has variety improved? Certainly not from anything outside of Ontario. There's more ...

Re: Beer in Convenience Stores coming early

Cool your heels on lower prices. It ain't going to happen with minimum pricing in the regime. Look at the propaganda. It never mentions pricing. Just convenience. Costco will get in the game only if they think their members would like to pick up beer without making an additional stop somewhere. Tha...
